South Africa is located at the southernmost region of Africa, with a long coastline that stretches more than 2,500km (1,553mi) and along two oceans (the South Atlantic and the Indian). South Africa Info provides extensive information on South Africa as well as detailed directories on accommodation, activities, and business in South Africa.
The interior of South Africa is a vast, flat, and sparsely populated scrub land, the Karoo, which is drier towards the northwest along the Namib desert. In contrast, the eastern coastline is lush and well-watered, which produces a climate similar to the tropics.
To the north of Johannesburg, the altitude drops beyond the escarpment of the Highveld, and turns into the lower lying Bushveld, an area of mixed dry forest and an abundance of wildlife.
East of the Highveld, beyond the eastern escarpment, the Lowveld stretches towards the Indian Ocean. It has particularly high temperatures, and is also the location of extended subtropical agriculture.
From the scenic coastline of the Garden Route and the Western Cape to the dramatic mountain ranges of the Drakensberg and the abundant wildlife of the Kruger National Park, each of South Africa's nine provinces has something different to offer.
South Africa is undoubtedly one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world! Besides being a land of varied landscapes and great scenic beauty, South Africa is also home to an abundance of wildlife, birdlife and marine life.
Many visitors travel to South Africa to experience the Big Five namely lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo as well as the smaller wildlife such as an array of buck, warthog and wild dogs, and the tiny bushbaby and dassie. National parks offer the visitor a true outdoors and adventure experience with activities such as game viewing, bush walks, hiking, canoeing and more.
Whether you are looking for 5-star luxury, a rustic bush retreat or affordable B&B accommodation, you are sure to find something to meet your needs while staying in South Africa. Popular holiday destinations such as Cape Town, the Garden Route and the various game parks and reserves have plenty of accommodation to offer ranging from luxury to affordable hotels, quaint guesthouses and B&B's, self-catering apartments and backpackers lodges.
